Trakt
Trakt keeps track of what you watch across apps: a history, a watchlist, ratings. Connect it and IPTV Deck becomes one more of those apps. A free Trakt account is enough.
Connecting it
Section titled “Connecting it”- Create a free account at trakt.tv if you do not have one.
- Settings → Integrations → Trakt → Connect with a code, on a phone, a tablet, a television or a computer.
- On a television and a computer the app shows Approve on Trakt with a QR code. Scan it with your phone, sign in to Trakt there and approve, then choose I approved it on my phone. On a phone the Trakt page opens; enter the code the app shows if it asks, approve, and choose Done, I approved it.
- The app notices the approval by itself and the screen changes to Signed in as your Trakt name.
No Trakt password is typed into IPTV Deck at any point.
Two things to know:
- Each profile connects its own Trakt account. What a profile plays goes to the Trakt account that profile connected and to no other, so two people on one television keep two histories. A profile that has not connected one is simply not connected: switch to it and connect it the same way, or let it use another profile’s Trakt.
- Connecting once is enough for all your devices. With Keep my passwords in my account on (see Encryption), the sign-in is kept in your IPTV Deck account, and every other device signed in to that account connects the same profile by itself the next time the app opens or comes back to the front. With the switch off, each device connects with its own code, which takes half a minute. A Trakt sign-in is not part of what you send to another device.
Using another profile’s Trakt
Section titled “Using another profile’s Trakt”A profile does not have to connect an account of its own. On the Trakt screen of a profile that is not connected, Use …’s sign-in borrows the Trakt of a profile that is. Plots, posters, cast and the scores from other sites then work in the borrowing profile too.
That is all it borrows. What the profile watches is not sent to Trakt, and it gets no Trakt watchlist, ratings or watched-elsewhere marks, so a child’s cartoons never land in your history and your films never land in theirs.
A kids profile has no Integrations screen, so set it up from your own profile: Settings → Profiles & PIN, the child’s profile, What … sees, then Integrations. The same place has Disconnect for a Trakt account the child’s profile connected by itself.
Stop using …’s Trakt ends it, and connecting the profile with a code of its own replaces it. The choice follows your account to your other devices.
What goes to Trakt
Section titled “What goes to Trakt”- What you play. Films and episodes, not live channels and not catch-up. While it plays, Trakt shows it as what you are watching. Stop near the end and Trakt counts it as watched.
- What you mark by hand. Mark as watched sits next to Watchlist and Favorites on a film’s page, on a phone and on a television, and on a television an episode has Mark as watched and Mark as unwatched in its actions (hold OK). Unmarking a title here also takes it out of your Trakt history, and the app says so before you confirm.
- Watchlist, favorites and your rating from the buttons of a title page: Watchlist, Add to favorites and Rate this, which then shows Your rating with Synced to Trakt.
- Whole seasons and series you mark as watched or unwatched.
What comes from Trakt
Section titled “What comes from Trakt”- What you watched elsewhere shows as watched here, with the date you watched it.
- Where you paused elsewhere. A film or episode you stopped in another app appears in Continue watching at the same place. If you got further here since, your own position stays. A title you removed from Continue watching does not come back, unless you pause it somewhere else again.
- Your Trakt watchlist is a row on the home screen, From your Trakt watchlist, with the titles your playlist has. On a television, Windows and the Mac it is also Trakt watchlist in the column of Movies and Series, right under Watchlist, with every title of it your playlist has; on a phone See all on the Home row opens the same list.
- Something you unmark in Trakt loses its watched mark here too.
The app checks Trakt when it starts, when you come back to it, every few minutes while it is open, and when you open a title. Sync with Trakt now, on the Trakt screen in the settings, checks straight away.
Sending what you watched before
Section titled “Sending what you watched before”Send what I watched here to Trakt, on the same screen, adds the films and episodes you finished in IPTV Deck before you connected, each with the date you watched it. Trakt keeps what it already has, so nothing is added twice. It is something you start yourself, once; it never runs on its own.
Scores from other sites
Section titled “Scores from other sites”With Trakt connected, a title page shows the scores next to the provider’s rating: IMDb, the two Rotten Tomatoes scores (Tomatometer from critics, Popcornmeter from the audience), Metascore and the Trakt score. A title that is too new or too obscure shows fewer of them.
In lists, a poster your provider sent no rating for gets the IMDb score. Posters fill in a few at a time as you browse rather than all at once.
Title details without TMDB
Section titled “Title details without TMDB”If you have no TMDB key, Trakt fills in most of what TMDB would: the plot in the language of the app, poster and backdrop, cast with photos, trailers, actor pages and actor search, More like this, and the home rows Popular on Trakt · Movies and Popular on Trakt · Series.
What Trakt does not give:
- Genres in Movies and Series, and More from this collection on a film. Both need TMDB.
- Names in the popular rows and on actor pages are English, so a title your provider files under a translated name, without a number to match it by, can be missed.
- The age rating is the American one.
With TMDB or SIMKL as well
Section titled “With TMDB or SIMKL as well”When TMDB or SIMKL is connected too, Settings → Integrations shows When more than one service is on: Title data from (TMDB or Trakt, TMDB to start with) and Watchlist and ratings in (TMDB, Trakt or SIMKL, Trakt to start with). They are per device, see Integrations.
A rating you give goes to every service you are signed in to. What you watch goes to Trakt whichever way they are set, and to SIMKL as well when it is connected. The scores from other sites are shown either way.
Disconnecting
Section titled “Disconnecting”Disconnect on the Trakt screen forgets the sign-in of the profile you are in. When that sign-in is kept in your account, your other devices disconnect the profile too, and the app says so before you confirm. IPTV Deck stays in the list of connected apps in your Trakt account until you remove it there, under Settings → Connected apps on trakt.tv.
When the sign-in is kept in your account, the Trakt card of the account panel in your browser lists the connected profiles and can disconnect each of them as well. Deleting a profile, on any device or in the panel, disconnects its Trakt everywhere.
Use Trakt on the same screen switches it off on that device without signing out.
Worth knowing
Section titled “Worth knowing”- A film you stop shortly before the end is watched in Trakt but can still sit in Continue watching here until you finish it. Trakt simply counts a title as watched earlier than the app does.
- Removing a title from Continue watching is not the same as unmarking it. It stays watched in Trakt.
- What you cast to a Chromecast is not tracked, because the app is not the one playing it.
- An episode your provider numbers differently from the rest of the world may not be found. That one episode is skipped; the others are tracked as usual.
If it stops working
Section titled “If it stops working”- “That code expired. Start again.” The code is good for a few minutes. Press Connect with a code again for a new one.
- “Trakt did not answer” with a number. Trakt is busy or down, try again in a moment. A title you finished while Trakt was out of reach can be sent later with Send what I watched here to Trakt.
- The Trakt row says Reconnect. The sign-in ended on Trakt’s side, for example because you removed the app there. Connect with a code again.
- Another device did not connect by itself. Check that it is signed in to the same IPTV Deck account, that Keep my passwords in my account is on, and that you are looking at the profile that connected Trakt. Each profile has its own.
- A title watched elsewhere is not marked here. The app can only mark titles it can match to your playlist. Opening the title’s page once usually does it.
