Recording
Recording captures a programme into your own storage. It is not the same as catch-up, which plays something out of your provider’s archive without keeping it.
Available on Android, Android TV, Fire TV, iPhone, iPad, Windows and the Mac. Not on Apple TV.
On Windows and the Mac the app has to stay open until the recording ends, and a scheduled one only starts while the app is running. The recording goes to a folder you pick in Settings → Recordings, and you can keep watching the channel while it records. Closing the window during a recording asks first.
Starting one
Section titled “Starting one”- In the player: the Record button, then Stop.
- In the guide: hold OK on a programme, on now, in the past or in the future.
- From a catch-up programme: it is downloaded from the archive rather than captured in real time, which is faster and does not need the app to be open at the right moment.
A programme with no archive
Section titled “A programme with no archive”On a channel that keeps no archive, a future programme has to be captured live, which means IPTV Deck must be open and running at the time. The app says so plainly when you schedule one:

Padding
Section titled “Padding”Settings → Recordings:
- Start early, begin before the programme’s listed start.
- Stop late, carry on after its listed end.
Broadcasters overrun, and guide times are approximate on many sources. A few minutes on each side costs almost nothing.
Both settings stay on the device.
Where they go
Section titled “Where they go”Settings → Storage → Recordings saved to picks the folder, including a removable volume, a USB stick or an SD card.
Writing to a volume you chose yourself is handled specially on Android, because the ordinary file API refuses to create a file that does not exist yet on a path outside the app’s own directories. The setting therefore never resets itself, and a recording waits about two minutes for the medium to appear before it gives up.
Watching and keeping them
Section titled “Watching and keeping them”Recordings, a tab on the television rail, a row in Settings on the phone, lists what is recorded and what is scheduled. Settings → Recordings also decides how long they are kept.
A recording plays in the same player as everything else, with its own subtitles if the stream carried any.
