Downloads for offline
Whole films and single episodes can be downloaded and watched with no connection at all.
Available on Android, Android TV, Fire TV, iPhone, iPad, Windows and macOS. Not on Apple TV, which gives apps no writable storage for it.
Downloading
Section titled “Downloading”- A film: the download button on its card.
- One episode: the button on the episode row.
- A whole season: the round buttons at the top of a series on the phone, or Download all in the season panel on a television. Both ask before they start, because a season is a lot of megabytes.
Progress shows on the tile itself, Queued, a percentage, Paused, Download failed.
The downloader works in resumable chunks, so a dropped connection resumes rather than starting over, and a failed chunk is retried on a fresh connection before the whole download is given up on.
Where they are
Section titled “Where they are”Downloads, a row in Settings on the phone, and an item on the television rail that appears once something is downloaded. Settings → Storage → Downloads saved to picks the folder, including a removable volume.
A downloaded title plays from the file: no provider, no connection, no buffering. Subtitles embedded in the file open at once rather than waiting for something that only exists while a provider is streaming.
On the desktop
Section titled “On the desktop”Windows and macOS have had the whole downloader since the first release; until version 1.7.1 there was simply no button for it. There is now, on the film card, in the season panel and on the episode row, with a Downloads screen in the rail.
A downloaded file with Dolby audio (AC-3 or E-AC-3) needs converting on the desktop, because Windows and macOS decode neither on their own. That happens automatically. You get picture, sound and a working seek bar, and the subtitles keep up with the picture rather than drifting.
When a download will not finish
Section titled “When a download will not finish”- It failed immediately, usually the provider refusing, often because something else is already playing on your account.
- It stalls near the end, the provider’s edge dropped the connection. Retrying resumes from where it stopped.
- There is no room, free some, then retry; the queue keeps the item.
Deleting a download is done from the same place it was started, or from the Downloads screen.
